Announcing the Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center program, 6-26-2018

​Dear colleagues,

Today, the CU Anschutz Medical Campus and UCHealth announced the naming of the UCHealth Eye Center program, headquartered in the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute building at the heart of campus, for longtime CU Anschutz Medical Campus philanthropic partner Sue Anschutz-Rodgers. A patient of the Eye Center, she expressed gratitude for the life-changing macular degeneration care she has received here, and made recent leadership gifts to accelerate ophthalmology research, speed innovation and therapeutic development, and enhance patient care. In 2013, she established the Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Endowed Chair in Retinal Diseases held by Eye Center Director Naresh Mandava, MD.

With Sue’s tremendous gifts, the Eye Center will continue to expand its leading-edge research into ocular stem cells for sight restoration, and to retain and attract eminent clinician-innovators who will shape the eye care of tomorrow. In addition to her gifts to the Eye Center, Sue has made an impact in women’s health, cancer research, scholarships, faculty support and other vital areas, and she remains an incredible advocate for our academic medical campus.

This remarkable philanthropic commitment is a testament to the caliber of our ophthalmology program and the visionary leadership of Dr. Mandava, under whose watch the UCHealth Eye Center has seen rapid growth and development as one of the largest in the country, with total patient visits now topping 100,000 annually and a strong track record of entrepreneurship and innovation.

We are proud of Sue’s partnership and humbled by her generosity and foresight. This naming of the Eye Center's programs and activities is fitting recognition of Sue’s leadership and vision for a bright future for those living with age-related macular degeneration and other sight-limiting conditions.
