Dear students, faculty and staff,
June is Pride Month, and at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, we would like to take this opportunity to share our ongoing support for the LGBTQ+ community and celebrate the diverse, vibrant people who enrich and sustain it – on
our campus and beyond.
This month and every month, we are committed to uplifting our LGBTQ+ peers and colleagues, honoring the historical progress made by LGBTQ+ leaders, and working toward the necessary cultural changes we have yet
to make as a country and as a campus community.
On the early morning of June 28, 1969, the Stonewall riots began in New York City in response to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a gay club in Greenwich Village. These riots sparked equal
rights movements for the LGBTQ+ community, which led to June’s national designation as Pride Month.
At CU Anschutz, we are proud to continue this fight for equality and equity for the LGBTQ+ community by celebrating #pridemonth,
and we are committed to nurturing an inclusive environment where all people are able to bring their whole authentic selves to our community at all times.
There is much to be done, and education is the key. If you are not a member of the
LGBTQ+ community, or do not know much about Pride Month, you can find a list of activities and resources on the LGBTQ+ Hub website to
learn about the community and how to support those in it.
No matter how you choose to celebrate Pride this year, please remember those who fought for equal rights, and take part in carrying forward this work as one of those who still does.
Happy Pride Month 2021.
Sincerely,
Regina Richards
Vice Chancellor of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement
