Dear students, faculty and staff,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberly Muller, Esq., as Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Biotechnology for the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, effective January 1, 2025. In this new role, Kim will focus on further elevating our innovation enterprise and expanding our partnerships with industry. She will report to me and serve on the Chancellor’s Executive Cabinet.
Kim has been instrumental to the evolution of CU Innovations since joining our campus to lead that effort in 2015 from the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute. Over nearly a decade at the helm, Kim has ushered in unprecedented growth and progress and forged strong partnerships with innovation operations at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado and partners spanning the country and the globe eager to help translate new discoveries made here into the next drug, device or technology.
Together with Steve VanNurden, who retired last month after 12 years as our Associate Vice Chancellor of Biotechnology and President and CEO of the Fitzsimons Innovation Community, Kim helped re-engineer the process of innovation on our campus and build a dynamic hub for bioscience research and development known widely as a destination for taking ambitious ideas to clinic and to market.
Through her leadership as Executive Director of CU Innovations ‒ a role she will retain ‒ Kim has transformed the innovation ecosystem on this campus and created new pathways for our faculty and partners to drive advancements at remarkable speed and scope. With tremendous business development acumen, Kim has helped establish robust investment funding vehicles, supported thousands of patents and inventions, shepherded faculty through the company creation process, and formed strategic industry partnerships that are reshaping health and medicine.
Please join me in congratulating Kim on her appointment to this new role. Her expertise, vision and undeniable passion for our mission will serve us well as we take our innovation enterprise to new and greater heights.
Sincerely,
Don Elliman
Chancellor
