New Psychiatry Innovations Office and National Mental Health Innovation Center Transition, 10-31-22

Dear colleagues,

As our campus has continued to elevate our work in mental health, we have rapidly scaled up our programs for all those we serve. With programmatic growth have come opportunities to build deeper connections among our many efforts, and we have taken steps to more closely unite our mental health initiatives campuswide.

I write today to share that, as a next step in that process, the National Mental Health Innovation Center will transition into the Department of Psychiatry to bolster the many innovation efforts currently underway. I am pleased to announce that Jay Shore, MD, MPH, has been named Vice Chair for Innovations in the department and will oversee the integration of the NMHIC into its broad portfolio of mental health innovation initiatives. 

In this newly created role, under the guiding vision of Dr. C. Neill Epperson, Dr. Shore will head up a new innovations office within the Department of Psychiatry. A member of our faculty for more than two decades, Dr. Shore is a leading voice nationally for harnessing telehealth and technology to make quality care accessible to people and providers everywhere. We are fortunate to have him at the helm in this new role at a particularly fitting time. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Shore on this appointment.

Established in 2016 with a tremendous philanthropic investment from The Anschutz Foundation, the NMHIC has become an example of what is possible when talent, creativity and expertise come together to spark meaningful progress. As we make this transition, we commend the NMHIC’s inaugural director and co-founder, Matt Vogl, MPH, and his team, for laying a strong foundation for technological innovation in mental health and paving the way for expansion in this burgeoning area.

At the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, our commitment to mental health is changing lives for the better. By bringing one of our landmark centers together with complementary programs and a rich network of resources in the Department of Psychiatry, we position ourselves well for continued impact in Colorado and beyond.
