Update on Potential Impacts of the Department of Education Transition, 3-25-25

Dear faculty, staff and students,

We understand that recent news about the potential “dissolution” of the United States Department of Education may raise questions and concerns, especially in light of the presidential executive order issued last week.

While we acknowledge that changes may be taking place within the United States Department of Education, it is important to note that abolishing the Department of Education entirely would require congressional approval and is likely to face legal challenges. In the interim, key federal financial aid programs will continue to be available to students. These programs are established by law and are not solely dependent on the existence of the Department of Education. As a result, students can still access the financial support they need to pursue their education.

We remain committed to keeping you informed about any updates and ensuring that students and families have the information they need to navigate the financial aid process. If you experience any issues or need more information, our financial aid office is available to answer specific questions through their website or at 303-724-8039. We also encourage you to stay informed on the federal transition by visiting the CU Anschutz Federal Updates website.

Our campus thrives on collaboration, where students, faculty and staff work together to support one another’s success and share the responsibility of advancing our mission. From cutting-edge advancements in research to innovative, interdisciplinary education and our unwavering commitment to the patients and communities we serve, our achievements are made possible by the incredible people who make up this campus.

In times of change, this interconnected community remains a source of strength and pride. With that as our foundation, we will continue doing all we can to ensure our students reach their educational goals.

With gratitude,

Don Elliman
