Your Vote Counts, 10-14-24

Dear students, faculty and staff,

We are a few weeks out from Election Day on Tuesday, November 5. As with every election, I encourage the members of the CU Anschutz community to make your voices heard by casting your ballot.

It is an important time to weigh in on a wide range of issues and candidates. On the ballot here in Colorado we not only have presidential and congressional races, but also state and local offices – alongside statewide, county and municipal initiatives.

The state of Colorado offers flexible voting options that make participating in our democratic process easy – from mail-in ballots and in-person voting, to same-day voter registration.

Whichever option works best for you, please consider taking time out of your day to vote.

Here are some quick reminders about voting in Colorado:
  • To vote in person, you must provide acceptable identification.
  • Same-day voter registration is available and the polls are open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
  • If returning your ballot by mail or drop-box, your ballot must be received by the county clerk and recorder no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 5.
  • An Adams County ballot box is located on campus at the northeast corner of the Monte Vista Parking Lot.
  • Voters registered in Adams County may cast their ballot in person at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center between Thursday, October 31, and Election Day, November 5. Hours are available here.
  • More information on how and where to vote is available at govotecolorado.gov.
To support participation in the electoral process, Colorado law affords employees up to two hours of leave to participate in an election if they do not have three or more hours of unscheduled work time during the hours the polls are open. Please check with your supervisor in advance to coordinate schedules to accommodate voting. Contact your school, college or unit HR representative for additional timekeeping guidance and visit the HR website to learn more.

As an academic medical campus, we are driven by a mission to improve the health of our community every day. Civic engagement through voting is an extension of that mission.

Thank you for all you do for our campus. I hope you join me in casting your vote this election.

Sincerely,

Don Elliman
