COVID-19 & the CU Anschutz Community
3 Key Steps for November
Yesterday, Governor Polis provided an update on the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in our state, and emphasized the critical importance of taking three steps to slow the spread. I urge you to follow this advice, and continue to do what we know works to protect ourselves and one another. Our state is experiencing a shift, now surpassing the hospitalization level we saw in the spring, and we are at our highest case count since the beginning of the pandemic. Indeed, it’s estimated that 1 in 100 Coloradans are currently
contagious with COVID-19. Our healthcare system will be put at risk if we stay on this current trajectory, possibly surpassing ICU capacity late next month.
This is a time to stay vigilant and do your part. Avoid gatherings with
those outside your household. Keep your distance. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Stay home if you’re sick.
Thank you for leading by example, and helping keep #CUAnschutzTogether.

Chancellor
Let’s face it: We are living in uncertain and stressful times. There are numerous events and tools available to the CU Anschutz community, on campus and off. Whether you are looking for one-on-one support, guided meditation, opportunities for group discussion, or information and contacts, there are resources available to help. Take care of yourselves, and help keep #CUAnschutzTogether.
Wearing a mask is one of the simplest actions you can take every day to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Here are common questions about masks on campus.
Do I have to wear a mask inside when I’m on campus?
Yes, wearing
your mask or face covering is essential at all times when indoors on campus. This includes hallways, elevators, breakrooms, restrooms and all other public indoor spaces.
The only exception is when you are working alone in your own completely
enclosed workspace (with a ceiling, four walls and a closed door), OR when in a completely enclosed shared workspace (with a ceiling, four walls and a closed door) that has been approved by your COVID official* for unmasked activity.
*COVID officials work in consultation with CU Anschutz Institutional Planning, Facilities Leadership and Environmental Health and Safety to assess shared spaces for adequate air exchange rates, rest time between users and compliance with existing
mask policy.
What about when I’m eating or drinking indoors?
Please wear your mask when entering or exiting a dining space or breakroom. Remove your mask once seated at a safe distance from others to enjoy your food or drink,
but please put it back on before standing to leave.
Can I remove my mask when I’m outside on campus?
It is permissible to remove your mask only when you are able to safely keep at least 6 feet from all other people. This includes
parking lots, walkways, public transportation/shuttle bus waiting areas and all other outdoor campus spaces.
