Potential Impacts of a Government Shutdown, 3-13-25

Dear students, faculty and staff,

With reports indicating a likely impasse on funding the federal government, a government shutdown may be imminent. Absent an agreement of the U.S. Congress, the shutdown will occur as of 10:01 p.m. MT on Friday, March 14.

Our campus leadership team is closely monitoring the evolving situation at the Capitol and working closely with the University of Colorado federal relations and legal teams to understand and prepare for possible implications for our campus.

In the event of a federal government shutdown, we encourage the research community to continue working on grant-related tasks. While the shutdown may affect certain federal processes, we recommend that you proceed with your proposals, applications, contracting and other grant activities as usual. We are actively communicating with our research community, including recent guidance on preparing for potential impacts.

If the federal government does shut down tomorrow evening, we will send another campuswide communication on Saturday, March 15, to alert you to the start of the shutdown.

Please continue to visit the CU Anschutz Federal Transition Updates webpage for up-to-date information. You can also find regular University of Colorado Federal Relations Team updates online. Remember that there are resources and support available to you as a member of the CU Anschutz community.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work together to move our mission forward amid the evolving challenges and uncertainty we are facing.
