Mpox is a virus that presents most notably with sores and small open wounds, and is spread through close physical contact. Learn more here about the signs and symptoms of mpox.

Mpox can spread when someone who has mpox has close contact with someone else. Close contact could include physical contact with sores, bumps or lesions of someone who has mpox, including through sex, kissing or other forms of close physical contact. 

Mpox can also spread by touching the same objects, materials or surfaces as someone with mpox.

Symptoms of mpox may begin with flu-like symptoms that can include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes and exhaustion. 

Typically, a rash or skin bumps develop within one to three days after the onset of fever, often beginning on the face and spreading to other parts of the body.
