2024 CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences Scholarship Reception

Dec 16, 2024On the evening of Tuesday, November 12, the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences held its annual scholarship reception in the Skaff Boardroom on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The event celebrated the achievements of student scholarship recipients and the generosity of the benefactors who support them. With 38 attendees, the reception fostered a special opportunity for students and their benefactors to connect, share stories and build lasting relationships.
The evening began with remarks from Scott Arthur, Vice Chancellor of Advancement. He expressed gratitude to those whose contributions make a profound impact on students' futures. He also highlighted how these scholarships help attract top talent to the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy, allowing students to become compassionate, highly skilled healthcare professionals who will contribute significantly to improving health across the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.
Dr. Ralph Altiere, Dean of the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and a faculty member since 1987, then spoke to the attendees, sharing his deep appreciation for their support and emphasizing the importance of private philanthropy in empowering the next generation of pharmaceutical leaders. Dean Altiere placed special emphasis on the school's ongoing efforts to enhance educational programs and promote diversity.
The event continued with words from Steven Thornhill, a scholarship recipient, who shared his personal journey and the challenges he has overcome in pursuing a career in pharmacy. He spoke about how receiving scholarships, including the Familia Leal Scholarship and Pay it Forward Scholarship, has had a significant impact on his education, both personally and professionally.
Scott Arthur offered closing remarks, once again thanking the students and benefactors for their unwavering commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical sciences. As the reception wrapped up, attendees were reminded of the lasting ripple effects of philanthropy, knowing that investments in students’ education will shape the future of healthcare leadership.
