Aug 26, 2024To celebrate the Charles Elliot Morris Endowed Chair in Neurology, 21 guests gathered at the Anschutz Health and Sciences Building on Thursday, July 25, remembering the legacy of the Morris family and learning about innovations in neurology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Naomi Carolyn Minner Morris, MD, MPH, and Charles Elliot Morris, MD, became the first married couple to be admitted to CU Medical School. Charles pursued neurology, while Naomi focused on public health and maternal-child health. While Naomi named the Charles Elliot Morris Endowed Chair in Neurology in her husband's memory as a testament to his achievements, it now serves to memorialize an entire family’s dedication to serving others through medicine.
John Corboy, MD, MA, has been named the inaugural chairholder of the Charles Elliot Morris Endowed Chair in Neurology. He serves as the Director of the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, and his clinical research is focused on multiple sclerosis and related disorders.
Scott Arthur, Vice Chancellor of Advancement, and Don Elliman, Chancellor of the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, welcomed guests and spoke about the importance of philanthropic support in strengthening the school’s ability to invest in leaders.
“With this endowed chair, the Morris family is carrying forward their legacy in medicine while also providing valuable resources to support top talent and innovative programs in the CU Department of Neurology for generations to come,” said Chancellor Elliman.
Ken Tyler, MD, Professor and Chair of Neurology at the CU School of Medicine, then introduced Dr. John Corboy, who inspired guests by sharing what the endowed chair will allow him to accomplish and what advancements he hopes to see in the field of neurology.
The evening ended with Dr. Corboy and members of the Morris family receiving medallions as a symbol of their connection to the Anschutz campus and their commitment to excellence in medicine.
