Katie Taylor Memorial Endowed Chair in Gynecologic Oncology Celebration

On Wednesday, September 4, 37 attendees came together at the Anschutz Health Sciences Building to honor the memory of Katie Taylor and celebrate the work of Bradley Corr, MD, through the Katie Taylor Memorial Endowed Chair in Gynecologic Oncology. The endowed chair was established by Norm Taylor in honor of his late wife, Katie, and is intended to support gynecologic oncology teaching and research with a focus on uterine cancer.
Dr. Corr, Associate Professor on the Gynecologic Oncology team at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, is the inaugural chairholder. In his work, he enjoys being able to provide a multimodal approach to patients and working directly with patients through their entire disease process, encompassing all levels of care.
The morning began with an introduction from Allison Krebs, Assistant Vice Chancellor in the Office of Advancement, who welcomed everyone with a message of gratitude for those who are building a legacy through their impact on health and medicine.
Dr. Nanette Santoro, Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, E. Stewart Taylor, MD, Endowed Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology, then spoke about the importance of private philanthropic support and the significance of endowed chairs, stating, “Endowed chairs provide valuable resources for innovation, exploration and training, giving the faculty who hold them a solid foundation for excellence.”
After an introduction from Dr. Saketh Guntupalli, Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Karen M. Jennison Endowed Chair in Gynecologic Oncology, Dr. Bradley Corr addressed the attendees and thanked his colleagues, family and benefactors for supporting him in his career and his work within gynecological oncology. In sharing his goals for the future, he noted that they wouldn’t be possible without the freedom that the endowed chair now allows him.
The family of Katie Taylor, including brother Jesse Grantham and husband Norm, then shared a heartfelt tribute to Katie. “Katie had the wonderful ability to easily meet new people wherever she went, and her life was filled with great laughter and friendships. She and Norm donated their time and efforts to supporting music, sports and the arts. It should be said her life was well lived,” shared Jesse. “It is hard to express how much it means to all of us at the moment, but Norm’s contribution to fighting this deadly disease will have immediate and lasting importance for women’s health here in Colorado and beyond.”
To conclude the celebration, Dr. Corr received a medallion to honor his acceptance of an endowed chair and his excellence as a distinguished faculty leader. Norm Taylor was also presented with a medallion to serve as a lasting reminder of his wife’s legacy and the impact he will have on helping countless others who face gynecologic cancer.
