Building Your Personal Security Posture
Oct 8, 2024With more threat actors trying multiple ways to steal your information or resources, it is more important than ever to start building your personal security posture. There are more ways than one to help protect yourself from these outside threats.
- Freeze your credit: By freezing your credit, you prevent malicious actors from trying to open a line of credit in your name, amassing huge debts that you would have to pay off.
- Sign up for Identity Theft Insurance with your credit card or bank.
- Update all your devices: Updates remove vulnerabilities that were found by the company that manufactured your software or hardware, and they release patches to resolve that weakness in the system. By resolving the weakness, your strong password prevents threat actors from getting into your systems.
- Strong passwords: Every device that you manage should always have a strong password consisting of 16 to 20 characters, and if you don’t use biometric security, you should use 10 digits or create a 16-to-20-character password to unlock your devices.
- Don’t click on links from unknown and known senders without verifying first.
- Don’t answer calls from random numbers
- Travel safety: follow our guide on how to secure yourself and your devices while traveling abroad.
- Review your credit report at least once a year.
- Don’t put your personal information on social media: this can give malicious actors information they need to crack security questions like the city you were born in or your mother’s maiden name.
