Phishing Simulation and Reporting Process
Sep 25, 2024CU Anschutz conducted a campuswide phishing simulation in July to educate and raise awareness about the risks associated with phishing attacks. By simulating realistic phishing scenarios, we hope to help employees and students get better at recognizing and responding appropriately to suspicious emails.
In the recent simulation, a significant number of people reported the test message as phishing, but an almost equal number of people clicked on the link. Clicking a malicious link can cause harm to your computer and/or put your data at risk. These results highlight the importance of continuous vigilance and education in combating phishing threats. Phishing attacks remain one of the most prevalent cybersecurity threats. We need to work together to protect the university – both our personal information and university data – from potential breaches.
If you receive what you think may be a phishing message, it’s crucial to report any suspicious emails promptly. It’s fast and easy – simply use the “Report Phishing” button in your Outlook email. Here’s how you can do that on different platforms:
- On a PC and Mac: Open the email in Outlook. Click on the “Report Message” button in the toolbar. Select “Phishing” from the dropdown menu.
- On Web Outlook: Click on the three dots (more actions) in the email toolbar. Select “Report” and then “Phishing.”
By following these steps, you help protect our campus community from phishing threats. Stay alert and always report any suspicious emails promptly. For more detailed instructions, visit our Preventing Phishing webpage.
