Stolen Devices
Dec 14, 2023During the holidays there are errands to run, presents to buy, and family gatherings to participate in—all while you also have tasks to get done at work. While it is stressful to juggle all these activities, it is important to protect the devices that you use to get it all done. You might think it will be easy to answer emails in your car in the parking lot of the mall or in the driveway of your family member’s house, but when you do that there is a risk associated with it. Since our devices store confidential and highly confidential information, you will want to make sure that they are protected properly. Here are a few tips on what to do when you bring your devices along with you during the holiday season.
- Don’t leave your laptops or cell phones in the car. A lot of cars are broken into during the holiday season, and leaving your devices in the car makes it more susceptible to being broken into.
- Make sure you keep a close eye on your bags, especially the ones where you store your devices. Theft is at a higher rate during the holidays, so make sure someone doesn’t walk off with your bag and device when you’re in crowded areas such as the mall or at other holiday events.
- Don’t leave devices sitting on public surfaces unattended where people can easily grab the device and make a run for it.
By staying alert and keeping your devices locked up, you will protect your devices and the sensitive data stored in them. If an incident does occur where a device with university information on it is stolen, please follow the steps on our website to report the stolen device.
