The Mary Reyland Mentoring and Service Award is in honor of Dr. Mary Reyland, the Director of the Cancer Biology Program from 2010-2021. Through her role as Program Director and Professor, she has been a part of the professional journey of hundreds of trainees. She recognizes the value of mentoring at all stages of a scientist’s development. The Mary Reyland Mentoring and Service Award is awarded to a Cancer Biology Graduate Program faculty member who has made outstanding contributions to and mentorship in the Cancer Biology Program.
Thanks to a generous donation by Dr. Steve Nordeen, PhD, the first director of the Cancer Biology Graduate Program and Professor Emeritus of Pathology, we are able to provide 5-6 travel awards each year for our students to travel to a cancer-related conference and present their research.
The Directors Leadership Award is awarded to the student who has done the most to strengthen and support the Cancer Biology program during their matriculation. Each year, the Cancer Biology Graduate Program selects one student for the Directors Leadership Award.
The Outstanding Research Award is awarded to the student who has excelled in research as determined by awards, fellowships, publications, etc. Each year, the Cancer Biology Graduate Program selects one student for the Outstanding Leadership Award.
