The AHEC Scholars Program is an interdisciplinary education and training program with curricula focused on rural and/or underserved populations. Scholars are required to commit to two years within the program, which consists of a minimum of 40 hours per year of team-based training in a rural or underserved environment and an additional 40 hours per year of didactic education. Students in programs lasting one year or shorter may complete the program in one year.
Our didactic program is focused on the following 8 core topic areas:
Colorado Current and Emerging Health Issues
I am currently working as a CNA at Columbine while finishing school. I plan to obtain my bachelor’s in biology before studying to obtain my MD. From there, I want to complete my residency in pediatrics followed by neonatal intensive care (NICU) fellowship.
Hello, my name is Emiliano Gonzales-Serrano, and I am a pre-med student at CU Boulder. I plan to study integrative physiology during my time at the university. Currently, I am a certified CNA and I plan to be a physician of family medicine serving underrepresented populations. I love to travel, and I will one day volunteer my time with doctors without borders.
Career and College plans include getting an undergraduate degree, successfully completing the MCAT, getting into and graduating from medical school and finally becoming a psychiatrist.
I have always loved helping people and being able to change a life. From the little things, like getting some water, to the big things, like performing CPR, healthcare has surrounded my life. I am a junior in high school and am already able to get a job in the healthcare settings because of the amazing opportunities Aims and AHEC have offered me. After high school, I plan to continue my medical education to reach my life goal of working in the NICU. I am currently living on Oahu and love it! I go to the University of Hawaii at Manoa and am in the Pre-Nursing program right now!
