The University of Colorado Anschutz recognizes the importance of grammatical consistency and accuracy throughout its communications. Our editorial style for the Office of Communications is based upon the Associated Press Stylebook (AP style), with the following exceptions and refinements.
For publishing purposes: CU Anschutz's official typeface is Neue Helvetica. Arial can be used in other publications.
CU Anschutz is more than our physical location in Aurora – it includes our people and wider reach. Accordingly, the correct and consistent use of our name across all communications and media is essential to building awareness and reinforcing our identity.
Our official names are CU Anschutz or University of Colorado Anschutz.
Both are acceptable on first reference, depending on the audience.
“Medical Campus” is no longer part of the university’s official name. Medical campus can be used in a context detached from University of Colorado Anschutz or CU Anschutz.

Other reminders on unacceptable naming conventions:
Our university name is always upfront and leads. This will ensure constituent portions of the university are matched to the central brand.
Examples:
Please note: the Colorado School of Public Health has its own set of tri-institutional brand guidelines and will not be changing naming conventions at this time.
The convention of leading with our university name extends to departments, divisions, centers and institutes. This is important, especially on first reference.
When using our university name in newsroom articles and more, standard convention is to omit the schools/colleges first over departments/divisions for any space considerations and readability. This ensures a match to our visual identity on branded materials/merchandise, email signatures and more.
Example: The CU Anschutz Division of Cardiology welcomed a new faculty member this week.
To conserve space it is acceptable after first reference, when possible, to omit terms like “Office of” and “Department of” for readability. Divisions and departments can also be referenced as a specialty, uncapitalized.
Examples:
To ensure centers and institutes maintain a connection to the wider university brand, be sure to establish their connection to CU Anschutz. Avoid using acronyms unless previously mentioning the name of the center or institute.
Some exemptions to full naming conventions (e.g. “Wellness Center” for “CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center”) can be used, depending on the audience, style and whether clean understanding is maintained.
Examples:
