University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus has a mission to improve humanity by preventing illness, saving lives, educating health professionals and scientists, advancing science, and serving our communities. Sustainability and human health are inextricably linked, so Anschutz Medical Campus has set stringent and impactful goals to reduce our ecological footprint.
The campus’s efforts are centered on achieving Net Zero by 2050. In working towards carbon neutrality, the campus is developing two stringent strategies: the Energy Master Plan (EMP) and the Climate Action Plan (CAP).

Caleb Yoder assists the team with data research, GHG emissions calculations, water conservation, and community partnerships. In his spare time, he can be found playing basketball, reading a new book and taking public transit.
Derek Cooper works with campus laboratories to make their research operations more environmentally friendly. Outside of work, he loves to read, run, and spend time with his wife, baby, and three dogs.
Jules Nienart takes a holistic approach to reducing waste on campus while applying for grant funding to support sustainability projects. Outside of work, she's practicing yoga, spending time with her cat, or attending a concert.
Jarrett Smith is the Sustainability Manager and oversees these programs as well as the development of the Climate Action Plan and implementation of the Energy Master Plan. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, skiing and spending time with his two kids and wife.
