The average human processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text (!) This makes imagery an essential tool for communicating and reinforcing our brand identity and core messaging. Our brand standards for imagery align with those created for fonts and colors, graphics, logos and marks, etc. Here you’ll find guidance on curating imagery that supports your business goals while also maintaining a consistent presentation of our brand across your audience touchpoints.

The use of AI generative technologies for images or visuals associated with communications and marketing efforts must follow all established university policies and guidance for information technology resources – including legal and ethical use policies. Furthermore, any visuals associated with marketing efforts, including those generated through the use of AI technologies, are still required to adhere to University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus visual branding identity and application standards. It is recommended careful consideration be taken while using generative AI technologies given the further challenges in addressing AI copyright, intellectual property rights and infringement and the lack of judicial guidance or regulation on these topics.
As an additional note, existing sites that utilize stock photography have begun to feature AI generated images in their libraries. Users should be aware if selected stock photography is AI generated and represents the CU Anschutz brand correctly. For more information, please view OIT's guidance and CU System's guidance.
