Enhancing Campus Communication: Upcoming Phone System Change
Nov 12, 2024We are making a significant upgrade to our campus calling system, aimed at enhancing the quality and reliability of our communication services. In 2025, the university will be transitioning to Microsoft Teams Voice. MS Teams Voice is a cloud-based phone system that integrates with Microsoft Teams, allowing you to make and receive calls directly within the Teams app, enhancing communication and collaboration. This upgrade is crucial to better support the needs of our university in a post-pandemic enterprise.
As part of this transition, several general-purpose phone numbers (extensions starting with 136xxxx) that are not currently being billed will be deactivated. In the past, many physical phones were placed around campus for potential future use. These phones will be reconfigured for emergency dialing only to ensure a smooth transition to our new system and maintain the quality of our services.
Phase 1
Effective Date: December 2, 2024
Affected Phones: Phones affected by this change will display a phone number that start with 136-xxxx. These phones do not have voicemail and are not intended to be assigned to a specific individual for general purpose use.
Reason: System conversion to improve service quality and reliability
What to Expect
Emergency Dialing: After the change, the affected numbers will only be able to dial 911.
External Calls: If you need to make or receive external phone calls for one of these phones, please request a new phone number from our Service Desk, and a new one will be provisioned for your use.
We understand the importance of uninterrupted communication and are committed to ensuring a seamless transition. Every effort is being made to minimize any inconvenience caused by the removal of these services.
