New Lower Storage Rates and Improved Efficiency
Jul 29, 2024Information Strategy and Services (ISS) is excited to announce a reduction in pricing and an upgrade to our centralized file storage services (Isilon). This change is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our technology infrastructure to better serve the university community. We have established a new agreement with our vendor, Dell, to implement a more efficient cloud-based storage solution. This upgrade will help provide secure, durable and reliable services for the university.
What’s Changing
Our new system will provide more space for your files, increasing capacity from 9.2 to 15.9 petabytes, and will also feature a faster network. Beginning this month, the cost for storage dropped from 2.5 cents per gigabyte to 1.6 cents per gigabyte. The annual fee for a terabyte is now $192 per year. The billing process will change as well – instead of checking storage once a month, we’ll now calculate it daily and average it over the month. This aligns with our new contract with Dell, who will bill us based on the total space used. As a result, we will no longer issue refunds, as billing will be based on the data Dell calculates directly.
Coming Soon
In the next couple months, our team will introduce a new Archive Tier for storing system backups. This tier is for backups only and does not provide additional data protection. The cost will be 0.8 cents per gigabyte.
