Special Circumstances

If you are a single parent or married with a working spouse, you may file an appeal to have child care costs added to your budget and receive a student loan. CU Anschutz uses the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) budget parameters for childcare expenses. The parameters are reviewed annually by the CDHE. Follow the instructions on the form carefully to avoid delay and return the completed form to the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office.

There are no specific funds set aside for this type of request. You may request a budget increase* during your enrollment at CU Anschutz to allow for the purchase of a computer. *Dental students receive a computer allowance in their first year's cost of attendance; therefore, are not eligible to submit this request. If the computer needs to be replaced, please contact the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office for further instructions.​​​​

Students who do not meet the financial aid criteri​a for independent status but who believe there are unusual circumstances which make it unreasonable to expect their parents to contribute to their educational cost could be eligible for a dependency override.

Reconsideration of Income

If you have unusual expenses that are greater than those of a typical student such as high medical or dental costs, required equipment purchases for a specific class, or disability-related expenses not covered by other programs, you may appeal for an increase in your budget.
